Frequently asked questions

What is a certificate of analysis (COA)?

A COA is a report issued by an analytical laboratory for a specific lot of material. It records the material’s identity, the lot tested, the methods used and the measured results, such as purity by HPLC and identity by mass spectrometry.

What is the difference between HPLC and mass spectrometry?

Reverse-phase HPLC separates a sample into its components and reports purity as the percentage of the main peak. Mass spectrometry (LC-MS) measures molecular mass to confirm the material is the expected compound. A complete COA includes both.

How does a certificate relate to the material I receive?

Every incoming research material is received with its corresponding supplier documentation where applicable. Progressive Bioscience reviews that documentation against the product identity, specification and material received before inventory is released for sale. Certificates of Analysis and analytical reports are maintained as part of our product documentation and published where applicable. For questions about the documentation for your order, email contact@progressivebioscience.com with your order number.

How can I verify a certificate?

Many laboratories print a sample ID or QR code on the certificate that links to a verification page on the laboratory’s own website. Compare the lot number, sample ID and results shown there with the certificate.

What purity specification do you use?

Our specification is 98% purity or higher by HPLC. Every lot listed on this page meets that specification.
